Greeley, Horace
(3 feb. 1811, Amherst, N.H., EE.UU.–29 nov. 1872, Nueva York, N.Y.).

Editor de periódicos y líder político estadounidense. Greeley fue aprendiz de impresor en Vermont antes de trasladarse a Nueva York, donde editó una revista literaria y semanarios para el partido liberal republicano. En 1841 fundó el New York Tribune, diario muy influyente dedicado a las reformas, el progreso económico y la educación de las masas. Lo dirigió por el resto de su vida, haciéndose conocido especialmente por su articulación de los sentimientos antiesclavistas en la década de 1850. Después del inicio de la guerra de Secesión, en 1861, Greeley siguió un curso político errático. Sus ambiciones de toda la vida por ocupar un cargo público, culminaron en 1872 con una fracasada campaña presidencial, como candidato del Partido Liberal Republicano.
